Chelsea's top-four hopes were dealt a blow as they were beaten by Newcastle United in the Premier League. The Blues were on the receiving end of a 1-0 defeat to the Magpies in the Saturday evening clash at Stamford Bridge.
Anthony Gordon opened the scoring for the visitors in the first half to leave Chelsea an uphill task to get back into the game and secure three points.
The defeat is a blow to Chelsea’s hopes of qualifying for the Champions League, with top-four rivals Manchester United, Aston Villa and Liverpool all in action on Sunday afternoon.
Chelsea will now be focused on facing Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League last-16 second leg next week, where they face the task of needing to overturn a three-goal deficit from the 5-2 defeat in the reverse fixture.
