Chelsea's recent transfer ban for breaching the Premier League's rules during the previous ownership looks set to bite BlueCo and Todd Boehly on the backside. The Blues have been hit with a whopping £10.75m fine and are banned from signing academy players from Premier League and EFL clubs.

The ban, which has been imposed for nine months, includes players all age groups above the initial Under-9s level, but is limited to just players at other Premier League or EFL clubs.

It means that Chelsea will be unable to exact revenge on Liverpool following Rio Ngumoha's move from Stamford Bridge to Liverpool

The Blues wanted to keep the rising star at the club and made several contract offers to the then 15-year-old, who moved to Anfield in the summer of 2024.

The Reds paid an initial £2.8million which could rise to £4million after a Professional Football Compensation Committee (PFCC) tribunal concluded earlier this year.

Chelsea have made a conserted effort to invest in their youth set up under the current ownership regime, but were miffed to lose Ngumoha to a Premier League rival.

The Blues have been out with revenge for the Ngumoha saga, with Liverpool wonderkid Joshua Abe linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.

The Reds winger has not yet been able to agree scholarship terms with Liverpool, and Chelsea had been tipped to swoop in and steal the star from under their noses.

However, the recent ban on academy signings, which is effective immediately, will put a stop to that move coming to fruition given the winger is only 15-years-old.

Nevertheless, Chelsea will still be able to bring in talents from abroad, which is a major boost in their potential pursuits of rising stars' Rayane Messi and Barcelona sensation Dro Fernandez.

Messi is currently with the Blues' sister club Strasbourg - on loan with Saudi Arabian side Neom - and reports claim Chelsea want to fast track the youngster into their first team next season amid interest from PSG, Bayern Munich and others.

The Blues were given a suspended Premier League transfer ban on first team activity, following on from the club self reporting irregular finances under the previous ownership regime.

The same can be said for Fernandez - with both players over the age of 18.
