Chelsea have parted ways with head coach Enzo Maresca, football.london understands. The Blues drew against Bournemouth on Tuesday night - making it one victory from their last seven Premier League games.
football.london reported on New Year's Eve that, in order for Maresca to stay put in his managerial role, results would need to improve. However, the decision to remove from his position had already been made with a falling out behind-the-scenes appearing to be a key reason behind his dismissal.
A statement released by the club reads: "Chelsea Football Club and Head Coach Enzo Maresca have parted company.
"During his time at the Club, Enzo led the team to success in the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup. Those achievements will remain an important part of the Club’s recent history, and we thank him for his contributions to the Club.
"With key objectives still to play for across four competitions including qualification for Champions League football, Enzo and the Club believe a change gives the team the best chance of getting the season back on track.
"We wish Enzo well for the future."
Prior to Chelsea's 2-0 win over Everton on December 13, Maresca claimed the 48 hours leading up to the game were 'the worst since I joined the club, because many people didn't support us.'
He then doubled down on his frustration before clarifying, 'in general,' when asked whether he was referring to people inside the club.
Since then, reports have emerged suggesting a two‑week breakdown in communication between the Blues boss and the hierarchy.
Most recently, the 2–2 home draw with Bournemouth saw Maresca booed by the fans, with assistant coach Willy Caballero handling the post‑match media duties after it was claimed he felt unwell.
Chelsea sit fifth in the Premier League, just three points off the top four, with Liverpool, whom they beat earlier in the season, currently occupying the final Champions League spot.
The Blues are next on the road against Manchester City on Sunday (5:30pm) before facing Fulham at Craven Cottage.
