Chelsea take on Manchester City at the weekend with the Blues in desperate need in the Premier League to keep their Champions League qualification hopes alive

Chelsea are in desperate need of points in the Premier League this weekend as they welcome title-chasing Manchester City to Stamford Bridge.

The Blues are without a win in the top-flight since the 4-1 victory at Aston Villa more than a month ago. Liam Rosenior's team ended a four-match losing streak on Saturday evening with a thumping 7-0 win over League One strugglers Port Vale in SW6.

The real test, though, comes this weekend with Pep Guardiola's Man City side coming to west London. It has now been confirmed that finishing in the top five this season will grant a side qualification for next term's Champions League, but by the time a ball is kicked at Stamford Bridge, there is a chance fifth-place Liverpool could be four points above Chelsea.

The Reds welcome Fulham to Anfield on Saturday evening, while there is also a chance one of Brentford or Everton - who face each other earlier in the afternoon - can leapfrog Chelsea, who play on Sunday. By all accounts, it is a huge 90-or-so minutes for Rosenior's Blues.

One good bit of news, though, is that Moises Caicedo's suspension risk is close to being wiped. The Man City game is Chelsea's 32nd Premier League fixture of the season. Premier League rules state: "Players who accumulate 10 yellow cards in Premier League matches up to and including their side's 32nd fixture will serve a two-match suspension in the competition."

Caicedo is on nine bookings this season, so if he can just go another 90 minutes without being shown a yellow card, there will effectively be a clean slate for the Ecuador international. The 24-year-old midfielder was rested for Saturday evening's FA Cup quarter-final win over Port Vale but is expected to return to the side to face Man City.

Particularly with Enzo Fernandez serving the second game of his in-house two-match suspension following his comments over the international break. Caicedo could be in line to wear the captain's armband on Sunday, with Reece James also absent because of injury.
