Alejandro Garnacho has admitted he regrets the way he left Manchester United after joining Chelsea for £40million

Alejandro Garnacho has admitted he has regrets about the manner in which he departed Manchester United. The Argentine made an acrimonious exit from Old Trafford last summer, joining Chelsea in a £40million deal.

He left the Reds as part of the so-called Bomb Squad having fallen out with then United manager Ruben Amorim. The South American had a bitter dispute with Amorim after publicly criticising the Portuguese boss for leaving him out of the starting line-up during the Europa League final defeat to Tottenham.

From that point, Amorim froze the winger out, who had already rubbed him up the wrong way earlier in the season by wearing an Aston Villa shirt bearing Marcus Rashford's name on the back, following the England player's own falling out with Amorim. Reflecting on his departure, Garnacho concedes things could have been handled differently.

Speaking to Premier League productions, Garnacho, when asked if he regrets the way he departed the club, said: "Maybe yes, because I loved that club. They gave me the confidence from the start.

"From Spain, to bring me to the academy, then they bring me to the first team. So it was like four or five years, and amazing love from everyone.

"From the fans, the stadium, everything was really good. It's just sometimes you have to change for the good of your life or the next steps. I only have good memories of Man United."

He also opened up on the final few months of his time at Old Trafford, where he found himself warming the bench under Amorim. Garnacho said: "I remember in the last six months I was just not playing like before at Manchester United. I started to be on the bench, it's not a bad thing.

"I was only 20 years old, but in my mind it was like I had to play every game. In my mind, maybe it is also on me, I started to do some bad things.

"But yes, it was just this moment in life and sometimes you have to make decisions and I am really proud to be here (at Chelsea) and still in the Premier League at a club like this. Everyone knows the team we have and the things we can do.

"Sometimes, we have better moments or worse moments, I am proud to be here but with United, I have nothing wrong to say about the club, no one in the club or the team-mates. It's just a moment in life that changes and life continues. I have no regrets."

Garnacho, who has struggled to make a major impact since joining with eight goals in 37 matches (just one in the Premier League), now has the perfect chance to put one over on both his former club's rivals Manchester City and then United themselves the following week.

Chelsea play host to Pep Guardiola's title-chasing outfit this weekend before welcoming Michael Carrick's side to Stamford Bridge seven days later.
