Moises Caicedo helped himself to an assist in Chelsea's comfortable 1-0 victory over rivals Tottenham on Saturday evening

Moises Caicedo has been hailed as the best midfielder in the world by Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.

The 24-year-old lynchpin was at the heart of the Blues' convincing 1-0 London derby victory at Tottenham on Saturday evening.

Caicedo teed up Joao Pedro for the winning goal and also made seven ball recoveries and four interceptions.

Sanchez has since lavished his team-mate in praise, stating: "I don't really need to talk about him but he's an actual animal. He's the best player on the planet in his position.

"He's one of the best in the world, who is better than him in that position? He's a beast. Every 50-50, every challenge he wins and is so composed on the ball."

Spain international goalkeeper Sanchez has known Caicedo since their time together at Brighton.

Caicedo joined Albion in February 2021 for around £4.5million but he did not make his Premier League debut until April 2022.

Sanchez insists the Ecuadorian is still the same player he first met in the canteen at Brighton as he paid tribute to his character.

The goalkeeper continued: "I haven't seen him change much. As a player and as a character, he's always been the same, hard work, effort, quiet but a very good guy.

"Obviously, he's filled out with his body a bit more with age and with experience, he's just got better and better on the pitch. His confidence has also gone higher and higher. He's a boss at winning the midfield."

Speaking after the game, Enzo Maresca also made it clear he feels Caicedo is among the best midfield players in world football, alongside Manchester City maestro Rodri.

The Italian said: "On Moi, I think he's showing how good he is. He's top, I said many times, the best thing from Moi for sure, we judge him inside the pitch, but he's so humble, he's such a good guy, he's always there to help everyone.

"I just said to the television that for me, him and Rodri, at this moment they are the two best defending midfielders in the world."

Caicedo has also battled through fitness issues this season to continue soldiering on through the pain barrier.

He was recently left out of the Ecuador squad for their international matches, earning some much-needed rest.

The £115million superstar is also enjoying his best-ever goal-scoring season in the Premier League to date having already found the target three times.
