Chelsea stuns fans by announcing joke transfer of big name to Liverpool

3 hours ago 33

It was a bit of banter that might make Chelsea think twice before pulling a similar stunt in the future.

Chelsea FC Women's official Twitter account sent fans into a frenzy by announcing Sam Kerr's transfer to Liverpool. The fanbase went into meltdown mode. The tweet, dropped precisely at 1.45 pm, came out of the blue. No hints or build-up.

It bluntly read: "Sam Kerr has joined Liverpool on a permanent transfer."

The response was immediate, with supporters expressing shock and disbelief.

"Stop it Admin, my heart stopped for a few secs" commented one supporter. "That's unacceptable" remarked another.

"WHAT? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?" exclaimed yet another fan.

Understandably, the Blues' faithful were less than thrilled at the prospect of losing one of their key players – especially one who had missed almost the entire last season due to injury – to a fierce competitor.

However, just three minutes later, the Chelsea social media team cleared the air, revealing it was all a jest, and the Matildas skipper, who signed for Chelsea in 2020 from Chicago Red Stars, wasn't actually leaving.

They retweeted Liverpool's announcement about signing Scottish player Sam Kerr from Bayern Munich – who had been on loan since January – with a cheeky caption: "Ohhhhhh you thought..

"Okay that was a stressful couple seconds not gonna lie!" admitted one relieved fan.

"Had me for a second.." confessed another.

While a third quipped: "This is July! ! ! We are not in April anymore! !".

Naturally, given that this is Elon Musk's Twitter, or rather, X, there are still numerous responses to the initial message, expressing disbelief over Chelsea's Kerr being transferred.

One can't help but wonder if the men's account will attempt this with Cole Palmer in the near future?
