Buoyed by their midweek Champions League success, Chelsea return to Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening to host a revitalized West Ham United in a Premier League London derby. This marks the first meeting between the sides since August, when the Blues cruised to a 5-1 victory over Graham Potter’s Hammers at the London Stadium.

Chelsea booked their place in the Champions League last 16 on Wednesday, coming from behind to defeat Antonio Conte’s Napoli 3-2 in Italy, thanks to two outstanding second-half goals from the in-form Joao Pedro. Under new head coach Liam Rosenior, the West Londoners have won five of their six matches across all competitions. Rosenior will be aiming to become just the fourth English manager to win his first three Premier League games, following in the footsteps of Bobby Gould, Sam Allardyce, and Craig Shakespeare.

Rosenior’s Chelsea have already claimed two top-flight victories over London rivals, defeating Brentford 2-0 at home and Crystal Palace 3-1 away last weekend—a result that lifted the Blues to fifth in the table, just one point behind fourth-placed Manchester United. Chelsea have not won three consecutive Premier League matches by at least two goals since October-November 2020, but they will be optimistic against West Ham, having won each of their last four league encounters with the Hammers by an aggregate score of 15-2—their best run against them since a six-game streak from 2006 to 2008. Overall, Chelsea have netted 109 goals in 59 Premier League meetings with West Ham, their second-highest tally against any opponent after Tottenham Hotspur (122 goals in 67 games).

West Ham, meanwhile, have turned a corner under Nuno Espirito Santo after a difficult 10-game winless run in all competitions. The Hammers have now won three straight matches, overcoming Queens Park Rangers in the FA Cup before securing Premier League victories away at Tottenham and at home against Sunderland, the latter a 3-1 win last weekend courtesy of first-half goals from Crysencio Summerville, Jarrod Bowen, and Mateus Fernandes.

Despite this resurgence, West Ham remain 18th in the Premier League, five points from safety following Nottingham Forest’s 2-0 win at Brentford. However, with 15 games remaining, Nuno’s men have time to close the gap and escape the relegation zone. The Hammers have not won three consecutive league matches since December 2023 under David Moyes, nor back-to-back London derbies since the 2021-22 campaign, when they defeated Spurs and Chelsea.

Historically, West Ham have struggled at Stamford Bridge, winning just one of their last 19 Premier League away games against Chelsea, and losing each of their last five visits since a 1-0 victory in November 2019.
