Christian Eriksen snubs Ronaldo to name four Tottenham pals in dream five-a-side

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen has revealed his ultimate five-a-side line-up, and every single name is a former Spurs teammate.

While it has been more than five years since Christian Eriksen left Tottenham Hotspur, it is clear he still looks back at his time in North London as the best chapter of his career.

The midfielder, who still stands as Tottenham’s second all-time top assister, never truly rediscovered that same rhythm at Inter Milan, Brentford or Manchester United, though flashes of his quality have always remained.

After three years at Old Trafford, where he made 107 appearances and with 26 goal contributions, the 33-year-old decided to move on this summer. Eriksen left United as a free agent without much complaint from the fans, as they knew he had given his share despite often being reduced to a bench role under Erik ten Hag and Ruben Armorim.

On Thursday, he sealed a free transfer to Wolfsburg, turning down interest from the Premier League and Championship. The Bundesliga seemed the right fit, and the decision already looks promising.

During the international break, Eriksen contributed three goals in two games for Denmark, and it just shows that he still has plenty left to offer. Spurs fans, too, will be rooting for him to shine in his new home.

Christian Eriksen’s dream five-a-side team is Tottenham-heavy

Speaking to the official Bundesliga channel after completing his Wolfsburg move, Christian Eriksen was asked to pick his dream five-a-side team, and his answers left supporters both surprised and nostalgic.

Despite having shared dressing rooms with the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Luis Suarez and Cristiano Ronaldo, the Dane went for an all Spurs line-up, even including himself in the mix.

He set up in a 1-2-1 formation and barely needed to think about his choices. First up, he went for Mousa Dembele in midfield, the Belgian who remains one of the most underrated players in Tottenham’s modern history.

His second pick was Harry Kane, Spurs’ all-time top scorer, with whom he linked up for countless goals during their six years together. He then slotted himself in midfield alongside Dembele, before naming Hugo Lloris between the sticks.

Finally, he rounded off his side with Jan Vertonghen at the back, the Belgian defender who anchored Tottenham’s defence for nearly a decade.

As Eriksen himself put it: “I would go Mousa Dembele, Harry Kane. I’m included. Then we need a goalkeeper, I’ll go Hugo Lloris. And then… one more player, defender… I’ll go Jan Vertonghen.”

Eriksen ready for life in the Bundesliga

Christian Eriksen seems more than ready and excited for the challenge of German football. Wolfsburg have made a strong start to the season, despite creating very little in attack. In their first two games, they managed to create just one big chance but somehow scored four times.

The lack of creativity has been a concern, and Eriksen arrives as the perfect solution, still capable of unlocking an entire defence with a single pass and creating chances from nothing.

His decision to leave Manchester United was largely down to game time. Under both Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim, he was seen as a bench option rather than a starter.

However, at Wolfsburg, he is set to play a key role every week, something that could prove vital in a World Cup year.
