Christian Norgaard first words after completing Arsenal transfer

6 hours ago 2

Christian Norgaard has joined Arsenal from Brentford on a two-year contract with an option for an additional year as he makes what is the biggest move of his career to date. The Danish international will join fellow summer addition Martin Zubimendi in the Arsenal midfield for next season.

With the departures of both Thomas Partey and Jorginho, the club have acted swiftly to bring in two replacements as Mikel Arteta prepares to take the middle third to a new stage of the club's process. Norgaard has plenty of Premier League experience having come from Brentford, and is not costing the club a fortune with a deal believed to have been agreed just north of £10million inclusive of add-ons, football.london understands.

Speaking to the club's official website upon his arrival, Norgaard expressed his excitement at the move. This is a transfer that even those at Brentford have seen as a great step for one of their longest-serving and most loyal stars.

“You can get almost emotional because maybe it was a dream that I've given a little bit up on coming towards the later stage in my career,” Norgaard said.

“I've just turned 31 and had signed a new deal with Brentford. Of course, there's always a little chance that a miracle could happen with Brentford, but it was probably unrealistic to play Champions League with them.

“Now, I get to hear the anthem and be a part of a Champions League campaign. It's a childhood dream and something I didn't think would be possible. So it's something I'm really, really happy about.”

Norgaard has already joined his new teammates on pre-season training and will fly out to Asia as part of the club’s pre-season tour. He could make his unofficial debut against AC Milan on July 23.
