Cole Palmer injury 'chronic' in worrying update as suspicions raised on Chelsea return

2 hours ago 2

Chelsea could be without playmaker Cole Palmer for the Blues' next Premier League game against Nottingham Forest after the international break.

Matt Law of the Daily Telegraph relayed the comments from the Three Lions boss recent England press conference ahead of the current group of international fixtures.

Speaking on the London is Blue podcast, Law said: "Tuchel said, 'I'll be very surprised if Cole plays the next Chelsea game.' He called it a chronic groin injury first of all. 'He has a chronic groin injury and there was never any chance we could pick him'

"A - he called it a chronic groin injury and b - in his mind ruled him out of the Nottingham Forest game. He just left at that.

"Chelsea are saying it's an ongoing issue that they're having to manage. Someone jumped on him (Jorell Hato) and you looked at his reaction, that didn't look good at all.

"The Cole one, without really knowing any detail because the club aren't giving details. Looks and sounds worrying to me. Tuchel's language particularly worrying I thought."

Palmer has not played for Chelsea since coming off after just 20 minutes in the 2-1 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Maresca revealed the England international's groin injury had flared up again, just three days after starting in the Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.

The Italian head coach said the club and player would have a meeting this week to get an update on the injury. Speaking ahead of the clash with Liverpool, Maresca said: "I don't have any update at the moment [on Palmer]. We have a meeting this week."

Palmer watched on as Chelsea defeated the Reds 2-1 at Stamford Bridge with Willian Estevao scoring the winner late into stoppage time.

However, despite the joy after the full-time result, Palmer looked in visible pain when defender Jorell Hato jumped into him after the final whistle.
