Cole Palmer has been speaking about his fitness levels with the Chelsea attacker plagued by a complicated groin issue that has troubled him all season-long

Cole Palmer believes he has "turned a corner" in relation to his fitness levels this season and the Chelsea attacker is relishing the opportunity to face his former club Manchester City on Sunday.

The 23-year-old has struggled with a complex groin issue all season-long and has looked far from his best at times. There have even been some doubts whether Palmer, who has scored 10 goals across all competitions for the Blues this term, will be included in Thomas Tuchel's England squad for this summer's World Cup.

Palmer, though, has now said he thinks a corner has been turned regarding his fitness levels.

"I feel good," said Palmer. "I feel like I've turned a corner. Physically, I feel good now, I can shoot again, do everything again. Now it's a case of kicking on and performing."

Palmer captained Chelsea on Saturday evening in the 7-0 win over Port Vale, with Enzo Fernandez serving an in-house suspension following his recent comments about living in Madrid in the future, while Reece James sat out of the FA Cup tie with a hamstring injury. Saturday's win ended a four-match losing streak for the Blues, with all attention now on Sunday's crucial clash with title-chasing Man City.

Chelsea's last win in the Premier League came more than a month ago at Aston Villa and Palmer, who is set to take on the club he departed in 2023, is hopeful of a "perfect week" for the west Londoners. He said: "The gaffer has said it needs to be a perfect week; everyone needs to be on it.

"Every time you win, it's nice. Losing four games was not good and it's fair to say that confidence was down. It's natural for it to go down but the win [vs Port Vale] meant everyone was happy and now we've got a clear week and we need to have a good game on Sunday.

"We're looking forward to it - it should be a good one."
