Cole Palmer admits he was left astounded after noticing US President Donald Trump on the stage during Chelsea's celebration following their emphatic victory in the Club World Cup Final.
Chelsea's 22-year-old star hit a stunning brace to help Enzo Maresca's team dismantle the Champions League champions PSG in a thrilling encounter.
The Blues ran out 3-0 winners with Joao Pedro scoring just before the half-time interval to send a real statement ahead of next season.
Palmer's contributions on the field were only part of the buzz, as his post-match interview with DAZN turned heads when he commented: "Everyone has talked a lot of s*** about us all season."
The broadcaster was quick to issue an apology on air due to Palmer's candid remarks.
The scene that unfolded next was unexpected, as Trump stayed on for Chelsea's trophy presentation post-match, prompting Palmer's visibly baffled response - a reaction that went viral, reports the Daily Record.
Palmer appeared to ask Reece James what the president was doing on the stage, before the Blues defender seemed to question Trump about his plans to stay or leave, but the president remained there.
A jubilant Palmer couldn't hide his excitement over his performance and lauded manager Maresca's strategic brilliance in claiming the significant win.
Palmer expressed his feelings, saying: "It's a great feeling. Even better because everyone doubted us before the game, we knew that. To put a fight on like we did, it's good.
"I like finals. It's happened again. The gaffer put a great gameplan out. He knew where the space was going to be. He tried to free me up as much as possible and I just had to repay him and score some goals.
"He is building something special, something important."
When asked about Trump's presence in the celebrations post-match, Palmer said: "I knew he was going to be here but I didn't know he was going to be on the stand when we lifted the trophy. I was a bit confused, yeah."
