Chelsea star Cole Palmer has been warned what could force him to face months on the sidelines with his current injury concern.
Palmer has been absent from Chelsea's previous two fixtures against Brighton and Benfica with a groin injury, with Enzo Maresca confirming the plan to to have the England international in recovery until after the international break.
It remains to be seen when Palmer will make his return from the injury, having been dealing with a groin injury for the majority of the campaign.
However, Palmer has been warned that he could potentially be ruled out for the remainder of the year should he undergo an operation, reports the Mirror.
Injury specialist Ben Dinnery believes that Palmer would face three months out of action if surgery is taken.
“Cole Palmer has been struggling with an ongoing groin injury and there will certainly be discussions within Chelsea with regards to the best course of action to take and how best to manage him," Dinnery said in an interview with Esports Bets.
“Behind the scenes they’ll be weighing up whether it is best just to have him out for two to three weeks, see how he responds to that and bring him back after the next international break, as opposed to going straight to surgery and potentially ruling him out for three months.
“Given how valuable he is to that Chelsea team, what’s another couple of weeks if they can have him back in the squad by the end of October? If you go under the knife, that could be the end of his 2025.”
Maresca recently provided insight into Palmer's injury, confirming that the England international should not need surgery before returning to action.
The Chelsea boss said: "Yeah, we decided to protect a little bit Cole in terms of him not getting a worse injuries.
"So we decided to rest him for the next two, three weeks, probably until international break, just to see if with that rest he can be able to recover 100% and to be completely fit after the international break."
Maresca added: "No, I don't think he needs surgery. It's just a matter of managing his pain and his groin. The amount of games is something that can happen. So this is the reason why we try to be conservative with him to give him rest and hopefully he can be 100% fit after the international break."
Chelsea can end the 2024/25 Premier League season on a high, but it is never quiet at Stamford Bridge and the summer looks set to be one full of news, with Enzo Maresca looking for transfer to bolster his squad.
