Tottenham are nearing a deal for Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid as the Lilywhites secure a long-term transfer target to aid Thomas Frank's squad

Two Tottenham stars have given the prospect of Conor Gallagher joining the club a thumbs-up. Spurs stars Micky van de Ven and Guglielmo Vicario have both given their approval of the deal.

Spurs are set to complete a £34.7million deal for Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid. The Lilywhites moved swiftly to see off competition from Aston Villa as they looked to recruit following the injury to Rodrigo Bentancur.

The midfielder suffered a hamstring injury which has forced the club into the market in search of a new central midfielder. Bentancur is set to be out for a matter of months.

Tottenham are long-time admirers of Atletico Madrid midfielder Gallagher. Ange Postecoglou was desperate to bring the Chelsea academy product to north London before he moved to Spain's capital.

But now, Spurs look to have been successful in their move for the England international. Van de Ven and Vicario wasted little time expressing their happiness, as both liked a post on Instagram suggesting that the transfer was complete.

Gallagher was a regular under Diego Simeone last season and made 50 appearances, but has found starts harder to come by this term. The 25-year-old has still made 27 appearances for Atletico, however, adding three goals and one assist in that time.

In addition to adding some depth to Frank's injury-hit midfield, Gallagher will be recognised as a homegrown player for the Tottenham squad.

Gallagher is expected to finalise his transfer on Tuesday, alongside Santos left-back Souza. The Brazilian ace is expected to land in the United Kingdom from his homeland to complete his £13m move.

West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta had been the subject of interest from Tottenham. The 28-year-old looks to have his heart set on a return to his former side, Flamengo, this month.

Spurs' transfer prospects have come under scrutiny as they sit in 14th in the Premier League after finishing 17th last term. Uncertainty has increased with the departure of transfer chief Fabio Paratici at the end of this month.

Frank has given little away about the clubs plans. The Spurs boss was asked about transfers following the loss against Unai Emery's Aston Villa.

He said: "I think we definitely need to do everything we can to play two good halves, which is, I think every team wants to do that. Every team wants to be consistent in that aspect.

"In terms of transfer market, as I said many times, we are out there working very hard, trying to improve the squad."
