Tottenham captain Cristian Romero quickly made Jamie Carragher eat his words after scoring with a bicycle kick to equalise the match against Newcastle United. The Argentine rescued a point for his team in the 95th minute, shortly after Anthony Gordon's goal from the penalty spot.

"Wow! Wayne Rooney would be proud of that! It isn't the greatest connection," Carragher said of the goal on Sky Sports. "Almost comes off his shin, as Rooney's did that time!

"How has that gone in? Newcastle will be kicking themselves. They'll be furious, Newcastle. Tottenham: two shots on target, two goals."

Prior to scoring the equaliser, Carragher slammed Romero for picking up a needless yellow card during the game. He rushed in and caught Joelinton late, leaving the midfielder on the floor.

"Romero is not going to change is he? I love aggressive players but he's not going to get the ball there," Carragher said. "You'd think with age and maturity he'd stop doing it but apparently not."

Romero, who missed Saturday's defeat to Fulham due to suspension, received his sixth booking at St James' Park. If the centre-back collects four more yellow cards before Spurs' 32nd Premier League fixture, he will face a two-match suspension.

In the 2022/23 season, Romero picked up nine yellow cards, the most of any player, averaging one every three games. Despite being a regular on the referee's books, the defender was last sent off over two years ago in the defeat to Chelsea in November 2023.
