Cristiano Ronaldo's feud with Jamie Carragher as Mohamed Salah compared to ex-Man Utd star

1 day ago 26

It’s no secret at this point that Mohamed Salah and Jamie Carragher don’t exactly see eye-to-eye, with the pair’s war of words coming to a head in the last few days after the former’s outburst against Liverpool.

Having accused the club of “throwing him under the bus” and suggesting that someone was trying to drive him out, Carragher was always likely to have something to say in response to Salah’s comments - especially after he was called out by the winger.

The 33-year-old claimed that the former defender would “come after me again and again”, and Carragher didn’t let him down as he branded Salah’s outburst a “disgrace”.

But even while he was giving the winger both barrels, Carragher did concede that he believes Salah should be treated differently to most players as he compared him to some of the world’s best.

“When I’ve thought about it over the weekend, and I’ve put myself in Salah’s position, or how I was as a player, I’m not Mo Salah. Mo Salah is a world-renonwned player, who is famous around the world, and should those players be treated differently? I think they should, I think they should be treated differently.

“And when you think of the players in that bracket over the last eight years, I would say Messi, Ronaldo, Mbappe. I wouldn’t put Salah alongside them, but he’s very close for what he’s done for Liverpool, so a legendary figure, and all those players, I think, get a privilege, exactly the same one Mo Salah gets at Liverpool.

Jamie Carragher branded Mohamed Salah's outburst a "disgrace"

“He doesn’t have to defend. He doesn’t have to chase back. So that’s the privilege he has with Liverpool.”

The comparisons with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are particularly interesting, considering Carragher has also had feuds with both in the past. But while the former limited his interactions with the Liverpool legend to private messages, the latter made his feelings a little more public.

Carragher was one of the most vocal critics of Ronaldo’s return to Manchester United back in 2021, leading to an awkward exchange on the pitch at Old Trafford ahead of Liverpool’s visit the following year.

Having been benched by Erik ten Hag, Ronaldo made a sure to greet his former United teammates Gary Neville and Roy Keane as he made his way out for the warm-up.

Despite being positioned between the two, Carragher was completely blanked by Ronaldo, despite his best efforts to get a handshake from the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.

Although his fellow pundits revelled in poking fun at him afterward, Carragher doubled down on his views on Ronaldo when reacting to the incident on social media.

“I get a custard pie for getting it right on Ronaldo from day one!” Carragher posted.

“The custard pie for him from ETH [Erik ten Hag] shows the manager thinks the same!!

“Maybe the ex-Man United legends (sycophants!) will now agree with me.”

It seems then that Salah and Ronaldo have plenty in common with each other - Liverpool fans will just be hoping that the Egyptian’s time at Liverpool doesn’t end in the same way the Portuguese star left United.
