Crystal Palace owner Stephen Parish has open about the transfer speculation surrounding Ebrechi Eze.
Eze has been a player of interest to Arsenal this summer, football.london understands, however, a move at this stage appears unlikely, with the renewal of Ethan Nwaneri’s contract believed to have reduced the club’s appetite to pursue Eze. The club are understood to have wanted three attacking signings in this window with Viktor Gyokeres and Noni Madueke coming in to bolster the forward line. However, a bid could materialise this week once the club complete sales of players currently surplus to requirements.
There remains a feeling of unfinished business with a few weeks left of the transfer window. However, Arsenal are running out of time to complete a swoop.
Eze has a widely known £68million release clause, a figure considered a reasonable deal.
However, it is understood that the clause will expire on August 15.
After that date, Palace will be free to set a fee entirely on their own terms. The 27-year-old is under contract for another two years at Selhurst Park.
Following Palace’s Community Shield triumph over Liverpool on Sunday, Parish was asked about Eze's future. He told reporters: "Players come and go in football clubs, you know, I mean, it's a life cycle isn't it?
"Hopefully they're still here. That's what I'd like but we'll see."
Gunners boss Mikel Arteta admitted that they may not stop there when it comes to business in the market.
"Let's see what happens in terms of where the squad is at in the next few weeks," he said. "We are actively looking at options, there are a few players that may have to leave also."
Sporting director Andrea Berta has already brought in six new signings, investing around £200 million to secure Kepa Arrizabalaga, Cristhian Mosquera, Christian Norgaard, Madueke, Martin Zubimendi, and Gyokeres.
