Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones has been linked with a surprise move to Inter Milan ahead of Monday's transfer deadline, but it is understood that the Reds have no intention of losing players in this window.

At present, Arne Slot's roster is already looking light in some departments — arguably in midfield in addition to elsewhere — and it would therefore be a risk to consider offers for any senior player before the window shuts.

Jones, according to Fabrizio Romano, is a player that Inter would like to sign initially on loan, with the prospect of a deal potentially becoming permanent in the summer. The transfer reporter says talks have been held regarding the 25-year-old.

However, Jones has been a key man under Slot since the Dutchman arrived. He returned to training today following illness midweek and could be involved in the matchday squad to face Newcastle United on Saturday.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Jones would be interested in making the switch. Any exit, however, would have to be green-lit by Liverpool.

Jones has started 10 times for Liverpool in the Premier League this season. He has made another 10 appearances from the bench, in addition to playing six times in the Champions League.

Earlier in the day, Arne Slot said he expected a quiet end to the window for Liverpool.

"I think you know the answer: the answer is if we think we've addressed a player that can help us and we think it's possible, then we would do so," he said during a press conference.

"But those are conversations that take place not far away from here, by the way, but not in this room."

Speaking on the depth of the squad more generally, Slot added: "I think I showed last season that one of the things I like is consistency and playing as much as I can with the same players.

"That is what I've done at all my clubs every single time, which I've shown to England last season.

"Unfortunately, for all the obvious reasons which I'm not going to go into again because people get so bored if I do this every time, I haven't been able to play many times with the same line-up.

"Even within games, I have to — sometimes have to, sometimes think I need to — make so many substitutions. So, that's far from ideal, I can tell you that, but we accept the situation as it is and we make the best out of it."

Liverpool.com says: Losing a player in his peak years, who is a key man for Slot, would be a major risk at any point, let alone at this moment. Jones will have a big role to play in the remainder of this season and is a hugely talented player.
