Dane Scarlett deserves a Tottenham chance - and Troy Parrott has shown exactly why - Opinion

Dane Scarlett has only been given 10 minutes of match time all season for Tottenham Hotspur and this decision could come back to haunt the club.

Tottenham Hotspur are not creating enough chances this season, which is a problem which primarily needs addressing by the midfielders and wingers in the team.

However, this does not mean Spurs are without issues at the centre of their attack. In fact, Thomas Frank’s decision to keep swapping which striker starts is a clear indicator that he is not satisfied with his current options.

Despite this, Dane Scarlett has made only one senior appearance all season and in just 10 minutes, he won a penalty against Copenhagen in the Champions League

Dane Scarlett has made the most of his Tottenham opportunities

Scarlett delivered a goal and assist against Elfsborg in the Europa League last season, despite spending just 24 minutes on the pitch. It was a night where Tottenham’s younger players came off the bench and shone, after a lacklustre performance from many first-team starters.

The Spurs academy graduate was given 11 minutes against Brentford a few days afterwards and he appeared for 16 minutes later in the month when Tottenham thrashed Ipswich Town.

Scarlett registered an assist in the latter fixture, yet was given no more than five minutes of playing time for the remainder of the season.

Although Scarlett has only been given one first-team chance this season, he has played three times in Premier League 2, bagging a goal and an assist.

Spurs must not repeat Troy Parrott mistake

Troy Parrott has hit the headlines recently for his goalscoring displays during the international break, but his performances for AZ Alkmaar have been almost as impressive.

The Ireland international has shown that even though he was rarely used at Tottenham, he always had the ability to become a star.

This is despite a number of loan moves in England which did not really go according to plan. However, the same could once have been said of Harry Kane. He too was loaned out to multiple EFL clubs, yet failed to do anything notable. The difference is, Kane was given a chance at Spurs and the rest is history.

There are no guarantees that Scarlett is going to reach the levels of Kane, or even Parrott. However, his current situation does sound rather familiar and with some decent cameos off the bench, it only seems fair that the 21-year-old is given a proper chance to show what he can do.
