Daniel Levy releases 109-word statement after stepping down as Tottenham chairman

After stepping down from his role as Spurs chairman, Daniel Levy has said that he is incredibly proud of the work he has done alongside the executive team at Tottenham Hotspur for the past 24 years.

Spurs have announced out of the blue that Levy has stepped down from his role as chairman.

While many Tottenham fans have been calling for Levy and ENIC to leave, none of them expected the announcement to come right now, with the media failing to catch wind of the fact that such a decision was brewing.

Tottenham may have only won two pieces of silverware in Levy’s tenure as chairman, but he leaves a club that is unrecognisable from the one he took the reins of back in 2001.

Daniel Levy is proud of Tottenham’s progress

Some will feel that Levy’s legacy at Tottenham would be defined by the club’s failure to get over the final hurdle and win silverware consistently despite reaching a whole host of semifinals and finals.

However, there is no doubt that he has transformed the club’s financial fortunes off the pitch, with the Lilywhites now dining at the top table in Europe, as evidenced by their inclusion in the now-defunct European Super League proposal.

Levy told Tottenham’s official website after his exit: “I am incredibly proud of the work I have done together with the executive team and all our employees. We have built this club into a global heavyweight competing at the highest level. More than that, we have built a community.

“I was lucky enough to work with some of the greatest people in this sport, from the team at Lilywhite House and Hotspur Way to all the players and managers over the years.

“I wish to thank all the fans who have supported me over the years. It hasn’t always been an easy journey, but significant progress has been made. I will continue to support this club passionately.”

Daniel Levy feels he will be more appreciated after he is gone

Speaking on The Overlap with Gary Neville earlier this summer, Daniel Levy said that his work will be appreciated after he has left the club.

The Tottenham chairman insisted that some of the criticism levelled at him was completely unfair, insisting that he has never interfered in footballing decisions.

Perhaps Levy’s legacy will be defined by whether Tottenham can build on the financial foundations he has provided and challenge the very best clubs in Europe over the next five years to a decade.
