Former Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez might be on the verge of a Premier League return, potentially putting at risk his positive relationship with the club's fanbase.
His circumstances mirror those of compatriot Luis Suarez, who faced a similar dilemma after leaving the Reds and subsequently apologized. Nunez departed last summer for the Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal. The former Benfica striker enjoyed a mixed tenure at Anfield, scoring 40 goals in 143 appearances and leaving with a Premier League title and a Carabao Cup among his honors.
He also developed a cult following, with supporters appreciating his tireless work ethic and ability to create thrilling moments in matches. Chelsea has now emerged as a possible landing spot, as has Newcastle following the Uruguayan's loss of his place in the side in Riyadh.

The controversial striker scored, and clearly relished doing so, in Barcelona's 3-0 first-leg triumph at the Nou Camp in the 2019 Champions League semifinal.
The Uruguayan apologized for celebrating before the second leg, aware he had damaged the connection he enjoyed with supporters.

"I think people know the work I did here (Liverpool)," Suarez said. "I think there will be more applause than whistles. There may be quite a few who are not happy, but I think there will be more who are happy and grateful."
He continued: "Celebrating the goal last week, people who know about football, who love this sport, know about the importance of this. I have all the respect in the world for the Liverpool fans. Because I scored and celebrated with my fans, I say sorry.
"Obviously, it is clear that if I score a goal against Liverpool, I won't celebrate it in the same way."
In the return fixture at Anfield, a match Liverpool memorably won 4-0 to book its spot in the European Cup final, Suarez was greeted with jeers throughout, suggesting supporters hadn't forgiven his transgression from the first leg.
Nunez will surely be keen to preserve his positive rapport with the Reds. The Kop faithful backed their forward when he faced ridicule from the media and rival fans for missing countless chances during his time on Merseyside.
When leaving the Reds, Nunez conveyed sincere appreciation toward the supporters. "Thank you, Liverpool," he posted on social media. Three years on, it's time to say goodbye.
"I'll carry countless memories that will stay with me forever. I leave with a full heart, thanks to the affection of a crowd that never let me down and always supported me — through the highs and through the lows.
"Liverpool will always be part of who I am. I'll miss you more than words can express."
