Deadline day: when does transfer window close in Turkey and Saudi Arabia?

3 days ago 5

The Premier League transfer window is set to slam shut at 7pm local time (2pm ET), marking the end of a summer spending spree by top-flight clubs.

This year has seen some monumental moves with more than $3 billion being splashed out by Premier League teams; Liverpool has spent a good chunk of that money, with Alexander Isak and Marc Guehi potentially still to come. While the deadline for adding new faces to their squads is Monday, top-flight teams can still offload surplus players to overseas clubs.

In an unusual move, the Premier League window is closing earlier this summer, with the Football Association, Premier League, and EFL all agreeing to a 7pm local time cut-off to prevent late-night transfer dealings.

Serie A, the Bundesliga, and Ligue 1 are also wrapping up their windows at 7pm (UK time), while in Scotland and Spain it's 11pm (UK time, 6pm ET).

However, there are still plenty of opportunities for Premier League clubs to sell players further into September.

Turkey's window remains open until September 12, and given the recent trend of sales from the Premier League to Turkey, there could be more departures on the horizon.

Speculation is rife about potential moves for players like Manchester City's Stefan Ortega.

Ilkay Gundogan is another who could potentially make a move to the Turkish Super Lig if City decides he doesn't have a future at the Etihad.

Manchester United is another club that could benefit from this situation after Andre Onana's struggles in goal. United's other goalkeeper, Altay Bayindir, has also failed to convince since arriving from Turkish side Fenerbahce two years ago.

The Red Devils are expected to sign a new goalkeeper on deadline day in Senne Lammens.

Meanwhile, the window in Saudi Arabia remains open until September 23, providing yet another avenue for player sales.

Numerous Premier League clubs have taken advantage of the readiness of Saudi Pro League teams to invest heavily in talent in recent years.

Darwin Nunez was the most high-profile player to depart an English club for Saudi this summer, allowing Liverpool to cash in.

Other transfer windows that close later than England's include the Netherlands, which shuts at on September 2, Belgium and Switzerland (8 September), Greece (12 September), and Serbia (17 September).
