Footage of Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice appearing to discuss is knee injury with Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers emerged on social media, sparking concerns over the severity of his knee injury.
Rice missed the Gunners' 4-1 win over Villa in the Premier League earlier this week after picking up the issue in the win against Brighton. The England international was at the Emirates Stadium to watch the victory after reports emerged before the game that he would be out.
Fears first emerged when Rice was not pictured in training on Monday. The injury is understood to have picked up during his impressive shift as a makeshift right-back against the Seagulls.
There was hope that he would be fit to face Villa, but he wasn't named in the matchday squad. Delivering an update pre-match, Mikel Arteta told Sky Sports: "Declan got a big kick in his knee during the match [against Brighton], at the start of the match actually, and by the time he finished the match he had a massive swell up.
"The game [against Villa] was too early for him to be able to consider."
Asked if it was a short-term injury for Rice, the Arsenal head coach added: "I think so. I hope that when the swelling comes out he can function [and] he will be fine. We miss Riccy [Calafiori] as well today."
After the win, Arteta was asked if he expected Rice to be in the squad for the trip to Bournemouth at the weekend. "Depends," he said. "So that swelling has to come right down for him to have the chance to function.
"He wasn't able to do that today yet, he's improving, but let's see what happens in the next couple of days." Arteta is expected to provide another update on his midfield talisman in his pre-match press conference this week.
However, a video has emerged on social media showing Rice in conversation with England team-mate Rogers following the game. Whilst it isn't precisely clear what Rice says, he does point towards his knee and seems to explain that it was swollen.
The video has sparked concerns among supporters, with many claiming Rice says his knee isn't right and is "terrible". Fortunately, the midfielder doesn't appear to be limping as he makes his way down the tunnel.
Rice has spoken out since missing the win over Villa, taking to social media to praise his teammates for their superb performance. He said on Instagram: "This team!!!! We keep going [three red love heart emojis]."
