Dejan Kulusevski injury timeline as Tottenham star's curious absence continues

Tottenham winger has been out of action since last May after undergoing knee surgery, but could be closing in on a return

Dejan Kulusevski could make his long-awaited return from injury for Tottenham Hotspur before the end of the season, according to latest reports. The Sweden international has not played since last May due to a knee injury.

The winger was one of Spurs’ key players last season, recording 10 goals and 11 assists. Any potential return would be a welcome boost to the club’s hopes of avoiding relegation at the end of the current campaign.

Kulusevski is stepping up his recovery but has confirmed he underwent another procedure after he was spotted limping.

He posted on his Instagram story: "Just to clarify things. I'm limping because I had a small intervention in the knee 2 weeks ago. Went in and took out what was not supposed to be there.

"Knee is great now. Thanks for all the support. God is the greatest. Always."

As reported by the i paper, no return date has been put on the winger, although a comeback for what could be a crucial last few Premier League games of the season has not been ruled out.

Spurs have an extended period without a game, which could give the winger more time in his recovery. They return to action after the international break on Sunday, 12 April, when they travel to take on Sunderland.

Their remaining Premier League games see them face Brighton (H), Wolves (A), Aston Villa (A), Leeds (H), Chelsea (A) and Everton (H).

The 25-year-old has spent some time with the Sweden camp this week ahead of their World Cup play-off semi-final against Ukraine. The nation came out as 3-1 winners, booking their place in the final against Poland on Tuesday night.

Ahead of the semi-final, Sweden boss Graham Potter delivered an update on Kulusevski’s injury. He said: "Dejan is making progress but not as quickly as we would have liked. Dejan is in Spain so I think he will come here and meet us.

“It will be nice to see him. At the stage he is in his rehab, it is okay for him.

"For others it is more difficult because they are at a stage in their rehab where it means it is more difficult to be on the pitch. But Dejan will come by and it will be fantastic."

Kulusevski has said that he is expected to be back fit in time for the World Cup.

"I understand that people were worried, but it was really for the wrong reason. It was really positive that I did this little procedure and that we were able to find the problem. Now everything should be solved," he told Swedish media outlet Viaplay. "Now it's just a matter of slowly and surely coming back.

"I can see the light. It feels better now. I really have a positive feeling about these two important matches [for Sweden] and a World Cup in two or three months. This is how the book and the chapter will end. I am convinced of that."
