Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola lost two players to injury in their Premier League draw with Sunderland
Pep Guardiola said that Savinho's injury 'does not look good' as the club wait for news on the problem that Nico Gonzalez picked up. Gonzalez went off at half-time having failed to shake off an issue and Savinho was taken off minutes later after stretching at the end of a chance.
Rodri and Jeremy Doku were rushed back from injury and helped to change the game as City tried to get the opening goal, but they were ultimately frustrated by a Sunderland side who maintained their proud record of staying unbeaten at home in their first season back in the Premier League.
City's evening was upset by regular injuries, with Nathan Ake shaking off an issue in the third minute before Gonzalez and Savinho were forced off later in the game. And with Chelsea and Brighton up in the next six days, players won't need to be out for long to miss multiple matches.
Despite those setbacks, Guardiola was delighted with the way his team performed against Sunderland as they stretched their unbeaten run to nine games in all competitions. While they did not pick up a victory, the manager felt they had played better at the Stadium of Light than they did when winning at the City Ground last week.
"A really good game, especially the second half. The first half was tight, we just missed to score a goal in the six yard box," he said. "We had many there, good actions against a fantastic team but I’m so proud and delighted at the way we played in a difficult stadium against difficult opponents. We did everything to win but in the end we could not win it.
"We created a lot. I don’t know if a team was able to come here and created what we created. They had an offside and Erling had one or two. They had some transitions because our shape was not correct, the second half Rodri helped us and when you are five, six, seven times in the six yard box and cannot do it, that was the only thing missing.
"But we played miles better than Nottingham Forest and today we could not win. Now it’s recovery because we have two days to the Chelsea game and we go for it."
