Tottenham Hotspur’s injury woes continue as Thomas Frank waits on key stars to return after the international break.

Tottenham Hotspur have suffered just one defeat all season, a testament to Thomas Frank’s quick adaptation and the collective spirit within the team.

Their recent 2-1 victory away to Leeds United once again showcased that resolve, even as the manager was forced to make do without a host of key players.

That win came with Dominic Solanke, Dejan Kulusevski, Kota Takai, James Maddison, Yves Bissouma, Randal Kolo Muani, and Radu Dragusin all unavailable for selection, leaving Frank to piece together a side capable of grinding out results.

Tottenham await key players’ return after international break

With the international break now underway, The Standard has provided an update on the status of Tottenham’s injured players, suggesting that as many as four could be in contention to return once the break concludes.

Dominic Solanke has been managing a recurring ankle injury that has troubled him for months, with his last appearance coming in the 2-0 win over Manchester City on 23 August.

Although a brief return to training raised hopes of a swift comeback, the issue persisted, leading to minor surgery. Thomas Frank has not provided a specific timeline for Solanke’s return, noting that more clarity will come after the international period, leaving his potential return date unknown.

Still on the theme of forwards, Randal Kolo Muani’s absence has further depleted Tottenham’s attacking options. The on-loan man has only featured once so far, coming off the bench in the Champions League win over Villarreal.

The French forward has been sidelined by a dead leg that has taken longer than expected to heal, missing five straight matches.

He resumed light training before the Leeds game and, having not been called up by France for their upcoming qualifiers, he should be available for selection against Aston Villa after the break, leaving him with a potential return date of Sunday 19 October, vs Aston Villa (H).

Yves Bissouma has not played for Tottenham since May and has been out with a knee injury following disciplinary issues that saw him miss the UEFA Super Cup clash with PSG in August.

Frank revealed last month that Bissouma had only just begun running outdoors and had yet to return to group training, indicating that his comeback remains some way off.

Dejan Kulusevski, Kota Takai, James Maddison and Radu Dragusin updates

Dejan Kulusevski remains sidelined after undergoing patella surgery before the Europa League final in May, but Thomas Frank has offered optimism, saying the Swede has a “good chance” of returning before the end of 2025, which means Spurs fans could see him sometime in November/December.

Kota Takai has yet to debut for Tottenham since joining from Kawasaki Frontale in June, but has returned to full training after recovering from a plantar fascia injury. He could feature after the international break if his progress continues.

Radu Dragusin has resumed full training after an ACL injury and could also be in contention to make the squad later this month, with a return after the international break not to be ruled out.

James Maddison faces a lengthy spell out after rupturing his ACL during pre-season against Newcastle, with the midfielder not expected back until summer 2026.

Frank will be hopeful the international break allows several of his sidelined players the time needed to recover, as Tottenham look to maintain momentum in the weeks ahead.
