Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai says discussions have been held about extending his contract with the Anfield side, with the Hungary captain arguably having been the Reds' best player so far this season.
Szoboszlai, who arrived from RB Leipzig in 2023, has made himself a mainstay in the team under Arne Slot. The arrival of Florian Wirtz in the summer has changed his role, but he has continued to excel, with the Reds wanting to tie him down into his peak years.
"There is always progress, but no decision has been made," Szoboszlai told reporters. "I'll just keep on going every week, every training, giving my best for the team, for the fans.

There are always talks. You guys in the media make a lot for the people [public] and you keep on going because that's your job.
"There have been talks but for sure not any decision has been made. Of course I am happy here but you know how football works and that is something everybody has to take into account."
Szoboszlai has been in excellent form in the last few months, but the last two games have brought issues. Firstly, his bizarre backheel against Barnsley and then the missed penalty vs Burnley.

"I made a mistake against Barnsley but I have to make it clear it wasn't disrespectful in my opinion," Szoboszlai insisted. "I would do the same against Arsenal, Manchester City and against Chelsea as well.
"I didn't want to give it back to Giorgi [Mamardashvili]. I wanted to keep going but I tried to pretend that I was playing it back, just to make it clear.
"I missed a penalty [against Burnley] but I'm going to keep on going. I'm going to take the next one, and I'm going to score, I'm pretty sure.

"You have to forget it, that's the best, but of course you have to have learned from it. To be honest, if you see me after every session, I cannot practise more.
"I'm not allowed to practise more because I'm practising as much as I can! I will keep on practising, and if I have another chance, I will take it."
Next up for Liverpool is a trip to France in the Champions League, with Arne Slot's men looking to secure a fifth win in that competition.
"[The Marseille game] is very important," Szoboszlai said. "We have to look at the game that it is a big chance to take a big step towards the top eight.

"If you look at the whole season, we have so many games so if you are in the top eight, you miss two and that is very important. We have to be ready because we face a really good team.
"We just have to focus for 90 minutes and maybe not only for 85. We have to learn that — everybody, each of us — and [what happened against Burnley] cannot happen again.
"We really let it down and thought the game was won, but it's never finished until the referee whistles so that we have to keep in mind."
Following the conclusion of AFCON, Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah could be back with his Liverpool teammates for the Champions League clash. He can be expected to feature against Bournemouth at the weekend too.

"Yes, to be honest, almost every day," Szoboszlai said when asked if he had spoken with Salah while he has been away. "We speak about everything: I'm following him, I guess he is following me.
"We talk a lot but that's between me and him. He will come back and then we just keep on going. He will be here and it's the decision of the manager and the club. It is not about us, it is about him.
"[Burnley was] the first time we played really against a low block and created a lot of chances, we had loads of guys in the box, we had crosses and shots.
"We had people creating chances and that is what we have to aim for against Marseille. They don't have a low block, they try to play from the back, and we have to be ready for this as well."
