Dominik Szoboszlai revealed two weeks ago that he is in talks with the club over a new deal, and was quizzed on the situation again after the win over Newcastle

Dominik Szoboszlai was asked about the latest with his Liverpool contract talks after the win over Newcastle
Dominik Szoboszlai has revealed there has been no progress surrounding his contract negotiations with Liverpool, but insisted he is relaxed about the situation.
The midfielder said last month that he and the club were in talks over a new deal, with his current terms set to expire in 2028. There is certainly no urgency to agree a new contract, and that is evident from Liverpool’s relaxed approach, with Szoboszlai telling reporters after the win over Newcastle United that there is no update in the two weeks since he was last asked about the situation.
“Nothing yet. From now on, it’s not in my head,” said the Hungarian, who played the full 90 minutes in the 4-1 win at Anfield.

There is no progress since the same the last time we spoke. We will see. If the right offer is coming then we can speak.
“I’m completely relaxed about my situation,” he added. “Right now, I am doing my job on the pitch and we will see.”
Asked if it’s the club’s hands now, Szoboszlai replied, “We will see. It’s always there and back. Let’s see what happens. Hopefully everyone will be happy at the end, but you know how football is.

“Of course [I could see myself staying for a long time]. I like the city; I like the club, I like playing with these guys. I love Anfield and I love fans.”
Pushed on whether he is confident a new deal can be agreed, Szoboszlai added: “It’s not only from my point of view. I would love to. Let’s see.”
Szoboszlai played at right-back in the absence of Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong against Newcastle, and put in another impressive display. He may be needed to fill in once again in defense when Manchester City travels to Anfield, but clearly, Szoboszlai does not want to make it a regular occurrence.

“Not the long-term and not even the medium-term in my head,” joked the ex-RB Leipzig man, when asked about continuing in that role for a longer period.
“I am a midfielder and hopefully our right-backs are going to come back from the injuries and I can get back in the middle. But as soon as the team or the coach needs me there, I will play and try to give my best.
“But Wata [Endo] and Curtis [Jones] are ready to play there, so we have quite a few options there.
“I think the midfield suits me better than the right-back. I am closer to the ball and I can be more dangerous.
“I feel from the right I am far from the goal but I am doing everything for the team and that we don’t concede, which is the most important for the defense, and I also try to help up front with long balls and crosses.”
