Dominik Szoboszlai has played down comparisons with Steven Gerrard as he continues his outstanding season for Liverpool.
The midfielder scored his 10th goal of the season as the Reds eased into the fifth round of the FA Cup with a 3-0 win over Brighton on Saturday. Having had his output questioned by some pundits last season, Szoboszlai has answered those questions emphatically to emerge as his side’s player of the season so far.
Even when the rest of his teammates have struggled during the campaign, the Hungarian has earned plaudits for his performances throughout, with Mohamed Salah and Arne Slot both labeling him as one of the best players in the world right now.

"I'm not playing a Steven Gerrard season, although he was a legend for the club,” Szoboszlai told TNT Sports after the win over Brighton. “I just try to do my own story and I try to do my best every game. Hopefully we can go on until the end.
"I don't score every time, but the last couple of times, it's been fine! I just want to keep going and score as many as I can."

Mohamed Salah said Dominik Szoboszlai is among the best players in the world right now
Although he might not be keen on the comparisons with Gerrard, Szoboszlai’s reputation is undoubtedly growing, which makes it no surprise that his future is becoming a slight concern for supporters.
The 25-year-old is under contract at Anfield until 2028, but he has admitted recently that no progress has been made in talks over a new deal. The Reds won’t want to lose a player who is now looking like one of the world’s best.
Asked about Liverpool's chances of winning the FA Cup, Salah said: "I think it is going to depend on his [Szoboszlai's] performance. We rely on him so much.

"This season he is one of the best players in the world. I wish he can can carry on like this. It is great to win a trophy. It’s good for everyone; hopefully we can do it again."
Szoboszlai also earned praise from one of his predecessors in the Liverpool midfielder, with Adam Lallana summing things up nicely: "He's a big-time player.
“I heard Stevie [Gerrard] talking about how he's a top player but, to get to the next level, he needed to bring a few more goals and assists to his game.
"In recent weeks, we've seen that. It's not just his output with the ball. Without it, he's always willing to step, run and be tenacious. He's the full package at the moment."
