Mohamed Salah's future remains uncertain once he leaves Liverpool, but a possible move to Saudi Arabia may have been impacted by U.S. President Donald Trump and the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Salah has announced he will leave Liverpool at the end of the 2025-26 season, prematurely ending the two-year extension he signed with the club. Salah will forfeit the $27.8 million salary for 2026-27, but is free to move without a transfer fee as he begins a new chapter.

The Egyptian winger has been heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, while MLS has also been listed as a possible destination. However, conflict in the Middle East may stop Salah from moving to Saudi Arabia this summer, though a future switch hasn't been ruled out.

Salah's future remains a mystery, especially after his representative issued a blunt statement to silence transfer rumors. "We do not know where Mohamed will play next season," Ramy Abbas wrote on X.

"This also means that no one else knows. Beware of the click attention seekers."

The Egyptian is likely to have a long list of clubs interested in signing him, ranging from Europe's elite clubs to major organizations overseas. Saudi Arabia has been pursuing the most recognized Muslim soccer player for some time, and MLS would also welcome Salah with open arms.

According to The Athletic, an immediate move to Saudi Arabia is unlikely due to the geopolitical uncertainty caused by the military conflict between the U.S., Israel, and Iran. The Saudi Pro League was forced to postpone games after the conflict began, and a Formula 1 race in Jeddah has been canceled.

The outlet also states that MLS is his most likely destination, and league commissioner Don Garber was asked about a possible Salah deal. Speaking to reporters at the SBJ Business of Soccer event in Atlanta, Garber said, "I couldn't say that until he announced he was leaving Liverpool.

"But what a great player he would be in MLS. And I think we would provide him with a great platform."

After Salah fell out with Liverpool head coach Arne Slot in December, transfer rumors began to swirl, and Garber said he'd welcome the Egyptian superstar to the league. "Obviously, if [Salah] ever decides to come to Major League Soccer, we'd welcome him with open arms.

"I'd say he should reach out to Leo [Messi] and reach out to Thomas Müller and see how happy they've been and how successful they've been and how much they've really embraced being in Major League Soccer."

However, no MLS team has yet registered official interest in pursuing a deal for Salah. It's likely that Salah will see out the 2025-26 season with full focus on Liverpool before contemplating his next steps.

Salah also has the 2026 FIFA World Cup with Egypt to prepare for, which begins weeks after the domestic season ends. Egypt has been drawn in Group G alongside Belgium, New Zealand, and Iran.
