Eberechi Eze Arsenal transfer decision explained amid Rodrygo transfer latest

Arsenal’s decision to not pursue a move for Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze this summer has been explained, with Tottenham now looking like the more likely destination for the England man.

Tottenham are in contact with Palace over a possible transfer. However, despite the talk over his future, Eze was named in the starting XI for Sunday afternoon’s Premier League game against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Arsenal have been heavily linked with an interest in Eze throughout the summer but have made the decision to not pursue a move at this moment in time, with Ethan Nwaneri’s new contract a factor. Concentration is also currently on sorting outgoings from the squad.

The Independent’s Miguel Delaney also reports that while the club had been looking at Eze throughout the summer so far, the latest suggestions indicate that they would prefer to bring in a left-sided signing once they have got players out the door.

While Eze is able to play on the left, he has been more commonly used in a more central position by Palace during his time at the club, with him being the most effective in that position.

The search for a left-sided player will mean that eyes are likely to turn back to Real Madrid winger Rodrygo. The Brazilian has struggled for regular game time for the Spanish side under new head coach Xabi Alonso during pre-season.

Arsenal have been linked with an interest throughout the summer. It does, however, seem that the Gunners could now face competition from Manchester City for the player.

The winger is reportedly seen as a possible replacement for Savinho, who has been the subject of talks between both Tottenham and City.

Real Madrid are said to value Rodrygo at a price of around €100 million (£86 million). They are also said to be open to allowing the player to leave the club before the end of the transfer window if he wishes to do so.
