Eberechi Eze to Arsenal transfer latest - Release clause truth, Liverpool impact, player stance

3 hours ago 33

Arsenal have less than one month to make key transfer target Eberechi Eze a part of the squad for the impending 2025/26 campaign.

The Gunners have already been highly active in the market, moving into July with six signings introduced. This has amounted to a total spend of £195m - and counting.

Before the window had opened attack-minded recruits were earmarked and the club have been successful in this mission with Viktor Gyokeres and Noni Madueke.

But Arsenal still feel there is room for more change and Crystal Palace playmaker Eze is maintained as a top target while there is still time to secure a deal. Discussions with the player's camp have already taken place, too, with the Palace talisman keen on the move - and personal terms not believed to be an issue.

Still, there is plenty to be done to get this proposed signing across the line. football.london gathers the latest on the Eze saga;

Release clause truth

There have been conflicting reports around Eze's release clause. Not down to it's existence, but rather up until which date it would be applicable.

Some have suggested the clause expired yesterday, August 1, whereas others believe it only expires on Friday, August 15, the day Liverpool vs Bournemouth gets the new Premier League campaign underway.

football.london understands that it has been set at £67.5m - a fee that the Gunners would have to pay in one lump sum to activate. But the truth of the matter is Arsenal have never intended to do this and, instead, would rather negotiate a structured deal to help put the club in the best position to comply with UEFA's Financial Fair Play restrictions.

Palace want at least £35m up front in any agreement.

Liverpool having an impact

A report from The Mirror suggests last season's title rivals Liverpool are applying pressure to the Eze situation.

But it is not how anyone might first think. The Reds are not actually being linked with interest in the 27-year-old themselves.

Instead, Arne Slot's men are credited with keeping an eye on Eze's teammate, Marc Guehi, Palace's central defender and captain who, by summer 2026, will be out of contract and be able to find a new club for free.

Arsenal fear their swoop for Eze could be 'scuppered' if Palace sanction Guehi's exit - as letting two high-profile stars leave as the new campaign gets underway is deemed unlikely.

Eze stance

Eze remains ready to give his all for Palace despite the possibility of moving to Arsenal.

He has been playing for Oliver Glasner's side multiple times this pre-season and his latest appearance came only yesterday during a 3-1 win over German club Augsburg. The attacker made his mark with another goal and assist.

A mazy run and selfless pass allowed Jean-Philippe Mateta the chance to score the opener, before Eze seized on a loose pass and punished the opposition. Palace are clearly happy in their decision to include Eze and vice versa, the player is happy to keep up his progress even if he could leave.
