Eberechi Eze transfer stance emerges amid Arsenal interest and Tottenham update

2 hours ago 36

Arsenal could potentially be handed a blow in their pursuit of Eberechi Eze, following a new update.

The Crystal Palace midfielder has emerged as a player of serious interest for Tottenham ahead of the new Premier League season.

This follows James Maddison's injury - a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) - sustained during a friendly against Newcastle United.

The playmaker is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

North London rivals Arsenal are also believed to be long-term admirers of Palace's playmaker and football.london understands the fee has been set at £68m - a sum the Gunners would need to pay in one lump sum to trigger his release clause, which expires before the start of the season.

But in a new update from Fabrizio Romano, Spurs could move ahead of Arsenal in securing the deal.

It is claimed Eze's stance is that he would be keen on a move to Tottenham, with Palace 'informed' of his desire to play Champions League football.

Spurs are said to be 'seriously' working on a deal and talks are expected to take place.

This could be a major blow to the Gunners if the deal goes through, but as football.londonpreviously reported, they are currently focused on offloading players.

Mikel Arteta and senior management are planning to offload players such as Leandro Trossard, Reiss Nelson, and Fabio Vieira, after investing approximately £192.6 million on signings including Viktor Gyokeres, Noni Madueke, Martin Zubimendi, Cristhian Mosquera, Kepa Arrizabalaga, and Christian Norgaard.

Palace are reportedly seeking around £35million upfront in any deal, though the expiration of the release clause would not alter the club's valuation of the player.

Some reports claim the release clause expired on August 1, while others suggest it will expire on Friday, August 15.

However, Arsenal have never planned to pay this outright and would prefer to negotiate a structured deal that aligns with UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations.
