Eberechi Eze undergoes Arsenal medical as Leeds United question answered before deadline

4 hours ago 3

Eberechi Eze is undergoing a medical this morning with Arsenal ahead of his move to the North London club. The England international is understood by football.london to be moving for a fee in the region of £60million plus £7.5million in add-ons, which would be similar to the previous release clause that existed prior to the Premier League’s start.

Mikel Arteta will hope to integrate the midfielder into the group as soon as possible. However, it is unlikely the relevant preparations will be done before the midday deadline on Friday afternoon for him to be involved against Leeds United tomorrow.

Premier League rules dictate that players must be registered for their new clubs on the final working day before their next match at 12pm. With Arsenal moving swiftly at the end of this week to hijack the move from Spurs in the wake of Kai Havertz’s injury, it seems it has come too late for Eze’s hopes of an Emirates Stadium debut.

Therefore, it stands to reason that his first opportunity could come at Liverpool next week when Arsenal travel to Anfield. It is hoped that he will be in attendance for the match on Saturday afternoon against Leeds to watch his new teammates look to make it two wins from two games at the start of the new season.

Mikel Arteta will speak to the press ahead of the weekend’s action. Whether the Spaniard is drawn on the signing remains to be seen, as Arteta typically takes a hard line on commenting on players not officially announced at a press conference.

There are also expected to be updates on Havertz's injury, which prompted the reignited move for Eze. In addition, there are also question marks over Ben White and Christian Norgaard.
