Chelsea will face Newcastle United in the Premier League this weekend and will do so with several key players on the sidelines with injuries

Chelsea and Newcastle United will have several players on the sidelines with injuries when they go head-to-head in the Premier League this weekend. The Blues go into the game looking to return to winning ways after their 5-2 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League in midweek.

Liam Rosenior’s side go into the game in fifth place in the Premier League table and will be determined to secure a victory that boosts their chances of finishing in the top four.

However, Chelsea will be without some key players for the match at Stamford Bridge this weekend, as Rosenior provided an injury update ahead of the fixture.

Estevao Willian is still expected to be unavailable for Chelsea as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury, which has kept him on the sidelines for the last five matches.

Jamie Gittens could return to the matchday squad after missing the last nine matches for the Blues with a hamstring injury, with Rosenior offering a positive update.

“Jamie's [Gittens] back involved, which is great. Este [Estevao] still a little bit further away,” Rosenior said.

“We want to be careful with Este because of the nature of his hamstring injury. We don't want it reoccurring at a crucial stage of the season.

“We'll see what he's like for Tuesday's game against PSG.”

Pedro Neto will also be unavailable for Chelsea as he serves a one-match ban for picking up two yellow cards in the defeat to Arsenal in their last Premier League fixture. Levi Colwill remains a long-term absentee with a knee injury.

Newcastle will also have some players on the sidelines with injury when they make the trip to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea this weekend.

Bruno Guimaraes has been recovering from a hamstring injury that has seen the midfielder return to Brazil for the early stages of his rehabilitation.

Guimaraes will not be available to face Chelsea, but will return to Newcastle next week to help support his teammates.

"He [Guimaraes] is back on Monday,” said Howe. “Typical Bruno, he wants to come to Barcelona and support the team.

"We hope he won't be too far away. Once he is back with us we will have to assess him. I know he has been working incredibly hard on his rehab with physios and doctors. I think he will be in a good place.

"Yeah he is such a big player, by the time the international break has ended we hope we will be active and available. He will travel to Barca but not in a playing context."

Lewis Miley is also sidelined for Newcastle as the midfielder continues to recover from a thigh injury, with Howe admitting the process has been longer than expected.

"We were hoping he would be fit for that game and I don't know if that has deviated at all," Howe told Chronicle Live. "He is not training with the group. He is on the grass now running again and working incredibly hard.

"But all the feedback I have had from the medical team is that we have to be careful with this injury and we don't want it to turn into something a lot more serious. It has gone on longer than anyone had hoped but the main thing is he comes back fit."

Defenders Fabian Schar and Emil Krafth are also unavailable for Newcastle with their respective injuries.
