Enzo Fernandez has handed Chelsea a potential injury scare after starring in the win over Wolves in the Premier League

Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez has confirmed that he will not be featuring for Argentina during the international break.

Fernandez recently starred for the Blues in the 3-0 victory over Wolves in the Premier League on Saturday, a win which moved Chelsea temporarily up to second place in the overall standings.

Enzo Maresca's side won the game thanks to goals from Malo Gusto, Pedro Neto and Joao Pedro, all of which came in the second half at Stamford Bridge.

Fernandez played 83 minutes of the contest before being replaced by Andrey Santos, where the initial expectation was for the midfielder to link up with the Argentina national team during the international break.

However, the Chelsea No.5 has confirmed that he will not link up with his compatriots during the international break, with a friendly match against Angola to come on Friday afternoon.

“I will not be available with Argentina,” said Fernandez after Chelsea's win over Wolves. “I was just talking to the medical team because I had a problem with my knee in the last 4 months.

“I came with a bone edema that got worse in the last weeks and months because we played a lot of games.

“I think the most important thing is coming to the end of the season and I think it's good to make this decision together. Always respecting the doctors and everything.”

Maresca offered an update on Fernandez's fitness after the win over Wolves, with the Chelsea head coach stating that the Argentina international requested to be substituted due to a knee problem.

"Joao Pedro, Neto and Enzo, they asked for a change," Maresca told reporters on Saturday night. "Because Pedro had a problem with his groin. And Enzo had a problem with his knee. So we need to see how they are now."

Chelsea now face a nervous wait before discovering if Fernandez will be available when the Premier League returns later this month.

The Blues will take on Burnley on November 22 in their next fixture, which will then be followed by fixtures against Barcelona and Arsenal in the Champions League and Premier League, respectively.
