Pep Guardiola has made 10 changes to his Manchester City side for their league cup game with Swansea
Pep Guardiola has given four Manchester City stars the night off at Swansea - but another has missed out with injury.
Tijjani Reijnders, Erling Haaland, Ruben Dias and Bernardo Silva did not travel with the Blues down to South Wales for their Carabao Cup game as the manager looks to give rest to key players. The first three have been used more than anyone else so far this season, while Silva is also comfortably in the top 10.
Mateo Kovacic is yet to start this season after undergoing surgery on his Achilles in summer, but misses out completely at Swansea after being described as not fully fit. The Croatian came off the bench to replace the injured Nico Gonzalez in Villarreal last week and made the bench against Aston Villa but is once again absent.
With Rodri also injured, that means a return to the starting XI for Gonzalez and a return to the squad for Kalvin Phillips. The former Leeds midfielder had only made one matchday squad this season, coming off the bench at Huddersfield in the last round of the League Cup.
John Stones is also on the bench as potential cover for Gonzalez as Guardiola makes 10 changes from the side that lost 1-0 to Villa in midweek. Oscar Bobb is the only player to keep his place from that defeat in a much-changed XI.
Rayan Ait-Nouri, Omar Marmoush, Abdukodir Khusanov, and Rayan Cherki all make their first starts since the injuries that have ruled them out since the middle of September at the latest. They will all be hoping to make a lasting impression ahead of the Premier League game with Bournemouth at the weekend.
CITY: Trafford, Lewis, Khusanov, Ake, Ait-Nouri, Gonzalez, Cherki, Mukasa, Bobb, Doku, Marmoush
