Erling Haaland has declared himself fit to feature for Manchester City against Nottingham Forest following Pep Guardiola's festive weight warning.
City's boss has made it clear that any player who adds excessive weight over Christmas will be left in Manchester rather than making the trip to the City Ground on Saturday. Haaland has stepped on the scales after returning to training on Christmas Day, following a three-day break, and posted the results on social media.
The striker registered 94.4kg two days before they take on Forest. "All good!!" Haaland wrote alongside the picture on Instagram, a post which prompted Gianluigi Donnarumma to respond with laughing emojis.
Haaland discussed weighing approximately 94kg during a 2021 interview with Norwegian terrestrial television channel TV2. He said back then: "I weighed 86 kilos when I came to Dortmund.
"Now I'm almost up and nodding at 94 kilos. I'm not the best at counting, but that's eight kilos in a year and a half.
"If you look at my whole body, you see that I have changed extremely. I am a completely different person... I have become 'more of a man.'".
That indicates Haaland should be safe from being dropped when City meet Forest. However, some of his colleagues may encounter difficulties with Guardiola's weight guidelines.
He said: "The moment they arrive after three days [off], I want to see how they come back. They can eat, but I want to control them.
"Imagine one player, and now he's perfect, but he will arrive with three kilos more. He will be in Manchester; he will not travel to Nottingham Forest."
All squad members underwent weigh-ins before the West Ham United win. City are to compare those measurements with today's figures ahead of their upcoming match.
Following the team's most recent outing, Guardiola emphasised the need for improvement, stating the side "have to play better". He also refused their appeal for an additional day's break.
Speaking after Saturday's West Ham encounter, the manager revealed: "The players asked me to have tomorrow's [Sunday's] training session off. And I said no, because they didn't play well enough.
"So Sunday recovery, train the guys that didn't play. And after three days off, they have two days to prepare for Nottingham Forest."
Nevertheless, Guardiola acknowledges the significance of players spending quality time with loved ones. He explained: "I've learned from England, since I arrived, as much days [where you can] have a day off, you give them.
"The schedule is so tight, and the players have to forget. The moment of the game, they will be fresh in the legs."
