Chelsea recorded yet another impressive victory by beating Barcelona in the Champions League - but there was some concern after Estevao was substituted late on
Estevao has responded after he gave Chelsea fans an injury scare during his side's 3-0 win against Barcelona on Tuesday. The 18-year-old, who scored the Blues' second goal earlier in the second half, was taken off in the 83rd minute after receiving treatment from the medical staff.
Although he didn't appear to be limping when he walked around the pitch at full-time, his withdrawal is no doubt a concern ahead of Sunday's clash against Arsenal. The Brazil international has been impressive since his move from Palmeiras and any absence would be a blow.
Speaking post-match, Estevao reflected on a memorable night at Stamford Bridge for the Blues, though there was no mention of his injury or his condition. In an Instagram post alongside several images from the game, Estevao said: "First of all, all honor and glory to God.
"A great night at home, happy with the goal, but even happier with the big victory. The whole team is to be congratulated. We keep moving forward in pursuit of our goals [folded hands emoji and blue love heart emoji]."
That followed Estevao's comments to Amazon Prime Video where he echoed the same sentiment and admitted scoring against Barcelona in the Champions League is the best moment of his career so far.
"I don't really have any words to sum up how I am feeling. It was all very quick for me," the teenage sensation said. "I found some space and wiggled my way through. "Yes, yes [this is the best moment of my career]. I hope I keep scoring for many more years. My family were here to watch."
Jules Kounde's own-goal had put Chelsea 1-0 in front in the 27th minute in west London. Barcelona's bid to get back into the game took a major dent when Ronald Araujo was sent off just before half-time - and it was an uphill task from there with Estevao and Liam Delap scoring in the second half.
"For me, personally, as you said, it's a big win, especially because the other team was Barcelona," Enzo Maresca said post-match. "But nothing changed in terms of what team we are, what we can achieve. So for sure it's important tonight's game, but no more than that. It's finished, now focus on the next one that is difficult again."
Next up for the Blues is a mouth-watering game against Premier League leaders Arsenal on Sunday. Maresca's side sit second in the top flight, just six points behind the Gunners ahead of this weekend's clash.
And Maresca reiterated that his team are now focused on the next task in hand. The feeling was very good, especially as you said, because it was at home with our fans," the Italian added.
"It's always nice to share this kind of moment. But now, I told the players, next 48 hours, completely switch off, have a rest, recovery energy, because then Sunday we have Arsenal. But my message after the game was just recover energy, that in this moment is the most important thing. And then from Friday we start to think about Arsenal."
