Estevao Willian reaction speaks volumes as Chelsea's £440m truth laid bare in Port Vale win

The main talking points and moments missed from Chelsea's 7-0 win over Port Vale on Saturday evening with the Blues booking a place in the FA Cup semi-final later this month

Sixty-three seconds. That is all it took for Liam Rosenior's Chelsea to open the scoring against Port Vale and for the head coach to breathe a huge sigh of relief, though he would not admit that. "I think every manager will tell you that the final whistle is when the relief is there," said the Chelsea head coach post-match.

That was the professional answer, the one Rosenior had to say, but in reality, as soon as the Blues found the opener, it was likely to be straightforward. Such is the gap in quality between Port Vale, rock-bottom of the League One table and likely to be relegated to England's fourth tier, and Chelsea, who put out an XI that cost them close to £440million in combined transfer fees.

Rosenior went strong - surprising many with his selection but he wanted to get the job done and end Chelsea's rot. "Our next game is in eight days," replied the 41-year-old when asked about his line-up. "I think this is the first clear week I have to work with the team. We played 19, 20 games in 10 weeks."

In contrast, Port Vale's line-up did not cost them a penny in transfer fees. It consisted of eight free transfers, two loanees and one player who graduated from the Stoke-based club's academy.

The gap in quality was huge and Chelsea emphasised that with a seven-goal rout to book their place in this month's semi-final at Wembley. After a four-match losing streak, Rosenior needed this. Port Vale or not, this was the sort of game to hopefully restore some confidence within the Chelsea squad.

Jorrel Hato was one of the standout performers for the Blues. Ever since Rosenior was appointed almost three months ago, the Netherlands' resurgence has been really encouraging.

Hato has gone from a bit-part player under Enzo Maresca to someone knocking on Rosenior's door to displace Marc Cucurella in the XI. The Dutchman's goal on Saturday evening, the one that got Chelsea going, was great to see but his performance outside of that was exceptional. His composure and intelligence in possession make Hato the perfect player for a Rosenior-style setup.

Hato played a huge role in Estevao Willian's goal as well, with the former Ajax defender threading a perfectly-weighted through ball to Alejandro Garnacho, whose shot came off the post before being slotted into the back of the net. It was the least Estevao deserved for an intoxicating second-half performance, the type of display where Chelsea supporters were constantly on their feet every time the ball arrived at the Brazil international's feet.

Estevao started on the left-hand side but he and Pedro Neto swapped wings at the start of the second half. The difference in the 18-year-old's performance was startling. In the first half, Estevao was constantly crowded out by Port Vale bodies, who made it very difficult for the teenager to find his way into the game.

That must've been something Rosenior noticed at half time. There was far more space on Chelsea's right side and Estevao flourished with more room to work his magic. He should have had more than one goal but you cannot fault his performance too much.

Reece James was a big fan, with the injured Chelsea captain holding Estevao tight in what looked like a bear hug as he was walking off the Stamford Bridge pitch.

It was an unforgettable day for 17-year-old Ryan Kavuma-McQueen, who made his first-team debut for the club. Chelsea supporters would have liked to have seen more of the academy star, and also Josh Acheampong, but Rosenior decided to bring them both on late.

"I was so happy for Ryan," said Rosenior. "I had the pleasure of watching him in the FA Youth Cup game maybe six weeks ago.

"I know a lot about the academy, the academy coaches tell me a lot about the players. I felt it was a really good moment for Ryan and for what is traditionally an outstanding academy to have another debut."

It was a brilliant evening for Chelsea overall, and one they desperately needed after a turbulent week. A turbulent few weeks, really.

You cannot say Chelsea are back given the level of opposition, but it was a step in the right direction at least. Bigger challenges await - Manchester City are coming to town in seven days' time.
