Gianluigi Donnarumma said working with Pep Guardiola has been even better than expected and that he is already eyeing up a lengthy stay at Manchester City.

The 26-year-old joined City from Paris Saint-Germain for £26millon at the end of the transfer window and has played six games for the club so far, keeping three clean sheets.

Having been made available for transfer by Luis Enrique, Donnarumma said working with Guardiola was one of the main attractions to joining the Blues.

He linked up with his new teammates for the first time just over a month ago, having completed his move at the start of the September international break, and it has already exceeded expectations.

Donnarumma has impressed in the early weeks of his City career and said he already feels settled at the Etihad, having signed a five-year contract when he completed his transfer.

“I feel at home at City, even though it’s not been long since I moved there,” Donnarumma told La Gazzetta dello Sport. "They wanted me a lot, they made me feel important, and now, they already consider me one of their own.

“You feel enchanted when you listen to him. I thought it would be like that, but the reality is even better than I expected. I hope to stay in Manchester for as long as possible and have a truly unique experience."

Donnarumma is back in Manchester after helping Italy to two wins in World Cup qualifying during the international break.

Asked to compare Guardiola and current Azzurri boss Gennaro Gattuso, Donnarumma said: “You feel Gattuso with you, it’s as if he’s behind you in every moment of the game.

"Our coach loves dialogue, he talks a lot, he explains everything to us. He gave us back a very strong collective identity almost immediately."
