Liverpool star Mohamed Salah netted in his farewell Merseyside Derby on Sunday, yet it was the reaction of an Everton ballboy that caught the attention of sharp-eyed fans.

Salah opened the scoring as the Reds claimed a 2-1 victory at Hill Dickinson Stadium, further consolidating their grip on fifth place and the final Champions League qualification berth.

The Toffees had the chance to close to within a point of their Merseyside rivals with a win, and leveled through Beto early in the second half. However, they were undone in dramatic fashion, as Virgil van Dijk struck in the 10th minute of added time to seal the win.

Liverpool released fresh footage on Monday showcasing various angles of the pivotal moments from the match.

Among the clips was a new perspective on Salah's opener, and supporters were quick to notice the young ballboy's enthusiastic reaction as the ball rippled the net.

"The ballboy behind Evertonian net for Salah goal is a Liverpool lad???" ... He celebrated the goal," one fan wrote on YouTube.

"We should bring the ballboy that celebrated Mo's goal back home to Anfield and let him enjoy a home game right at the sidelines," wrote another.

Several supporters also noted that some Liverpool fans have previously turned out for Everton, suggesting that a Reds supporter serving as a ballboy for their city rivals may not be quite as far-fetched as it sounds.

Unsurprisingly, much of the post-match discussion centered on the late drama. Liverpool appeared to have squandered its final opportunity when Rio Ngumoha blazed over, only for Van Dijk to nod home a Dominik Szoboszlai corner to shatter Everton's hopes.

"To score late, you could see the reaction of our players to the fans and the fans to our players. That tells you everything about how important this game is for us," said Reds manager Arne Slot.

The game also marked a league debut for Freddie Woodman. The goalkeeper, who moved to Anfield last summer as a third choice, was thrust into the action with Alisson already sidelined through injury and Giorgi Mamardashvili forced off during the second half.

"I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous," Woodman, 29, told club media. "Being a part of this massive club, you have moments where you are a little bit nervous.

"But, to be honest, I thought to myself as I ran on, I just saw our back four and thought, 'I should be alright, you know, as they are proper players.' I thought I wouldn't be too busy and, to be fair, they looked after me.

"It was just unbelievable to make my debut in the Premier League and to win like we did was special."
