Jack Grealish was an Everton injury doubt to face Arsenal with David Moyes issuing mixed updates on him and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall
Everton boss David Moyes has confirmed Jack Grealish is available to face Arsenal, but that Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is out. Both attackers suffered injury problems last weekend against Chelsea, but only Grealish has been able to overcome his issue.
Moyes was able to confirm the good news on Grealish during his Friday press conference ahead of Arsenal's visit to the Hill Dickinson Stadium. He said: "Jack is okay. Jack will be fit and available to play, yes."
The English winger, who is on a season-long loan at the Toffees from Manchester City, was substituted in the final stages of their defeat to Chelsea. Moyes revealed in his post-match press conference that a potential injury was what forced him off.
He said: "Jack felt his hamstring so we just need to be careful with these boys.” An issue in the same area resulted in Dewsbury-Hall departing the action after just 16 minutes at Stamford Bridge.
Initial fears that it was a serious injury have somewhat alleviated in the last week with Moyes seemingly confirming that, but stating he won't be able to play against the Gunners. The Everton boss said: "Kiernan is doing well but not available for the game,"
"He’ll be a big miss for us but that’s what happens at this time of the years – liable to lose players, every club has got injuries and suspensions, so we’re no different to anybody else."
When asked if an injury timeline had been set for Dewsbury-Hall, Moyes replied: "We have, but I’m not telling you!"
Everton are one of the Premier League teams being hit hard by AFCON with Iliman Ndiaye and Idrissa Gueye unavailable to face Arsenal as they are set to represent Senegal.
At Arsenal, it continues to be injury problems that hamper Mikel Arteta with Ben White the latest player to suffer an issue. He was forced early on against Wolves last Saturday with the Arsenal boss issuing an update on Friday.
He said at a press conference: "Yeah, he's out, he's evolving well, it's not a major injury, but it will keep him out for a few games, I think."
Arteta was able to confirm some positive news after fears were sparked by Martin Zubimendi's training absence with it revealed that he was not present for the opening section of their session due to load management.
Updates on Gabriel Magalhaes and Kai Havertz were also delivered by the Spaniard as both push to feature before the end of 2025.
On the latter, he said: "He's progressing really well and quite fast in the last few weeks. We are really positive that if everything continues like that in the next training sessions, he's going to be with us.
When asked about Gabriel returning to face Aston Villa on Tuesday, December 30, Arteta admitted: "He's pushing hard as he always does every time he's out and he's evolving really well, he's doing pitch sessions so he's not too far, we have to see in the last stages of that rehab how he progresses but we are quite positive about him."
Both players will miss this weekend's clash against Everton with Jarrad Branthwaite and Seamus Coleman another duo set to be absent because of muscular injuries. Moyes has confirmed that Merlin Rohl has been training and will hopefully be available.
