Liverpool's January transfer window saw it verbally commit to a £60 million ($82M) deal for Jeremy Jacquet, although the player won't be joining the club until the summer.

For the past week, it seemed as if the highly-rated French defender was destined for Chelsea. However, Liverpool has made a late move amidst ongoing chatter about strengthening its defense.

This comes just months after it twice shattered the British transfer record - first with Florian Wirtz and then Alexander Isak. The Reds did, however, miss out on Marc Guehi late in the summer window, leading to speculation that they'd make another bid for the England defender.

But they've been pipped to the post, with the center-half heading to Manchester City - a move that may have spurred Liverpool's pursuit of Jacquet. The club's defensive line-up has several variables and could see significant changes in the coming years.

Ibrahima Konate's contract expires in the summer, and Joe Gomez is rumored to be on his way out. Injuries have disrupted the defense's consistency, reports the Mirror.

Here are all the ins and outs from the January transfer window at Liverpool...

Ins

Liverpool has agreed to shell out a fixed fee of £55M ($75M), plus a potential £5M ($6.8M) in performance-related add-ons for Jacquet. Chelsea was offered the same deal, but the player chose Anfield over Stamford Bridge. It's believed he felt he would get more playing time with the Reds.

As of now, the deal hasn't been officially confirmed, but a medical was completed on Monday.

Another defender, Mor Talla Ndiaye, a relatively unknown name, has been signed from Amitie, while another deal has been agreed for Ifeanyi Ndukwe, who is set to join the club from Austria Vienna in the summer. With injuries plaguing several players, including Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley, there were rumors that they might strengthen their fullback ranks, but no such deals materialized.

Outs

There haven't been many significant departures. Over the weekend, Dominik Szoboszlai admitted that his contract talks hadn't progressed as expected, but there's no indication that he'll be leaving Anfield.

He stated: "It's not in my hands. There is no progression but if the right offer comes then let's see."
