Every word Enzo Maresca said on Delap injury, Chelsea transfer plans, why Fernandez was furious

Enzo Maresca has just finished his post-match press conference after Chelsea's 2-0 win over west London neighbours Fulham at Stamford Bridge.

Goals in each half from Joao Pedro and Enzo Fernandez were enough to hand the Blues the all important three points - in a game that had many talking points. With that being said, here is every word Maresca had to say to the media post-match:

How is Liam Delap? Do you now need to sign another striker?

Liam's injury doesn't look good in terms of, he was full speed, hamstring, so that required, like always, weeks. And then in terms of another striker, to be honest, we just finished the game from the changing room and came here for the press conference, so now after, when we finish, we're going to sit and we'll see if we take any decision. That's all.

Can you cancel Nicolas Jackson's loan?

I just said, finish the game, come here, no idea. We're going to sit now and we'll see. Serious, honest, I don't have any idea.

Do you have enough options at striker?

When you have two strikers, it's enough. When one of them is injured for different weeks, probably it's not enough. Today we played more than one hour with Tyrique [George], and he did brilliant. The last game he played as a No.9 was Man United at home last year. Again, we try to use a different solution. If you remember last year, we used Pedro [Neto] in some games as a No.9. It's because we are always looking for a solution, but for sure when you have two proper No.9s, it's enough.

Direct impact, these injuries, of a short pre-season in the Club World Cup?

I said before the season started that unfortunately I don't have any answer, because it's the first time that you have a competition during the summer, so you don't know. I don't know. Not me, no sports science, not any doctor can help us to say we're going to have this problem or this problem. We don't know. It's something new and unfortunately it happened. I said yesterday in the press conference, I think it's not random that Levi [Colwill], Moi [Caicedo], Cole [Palmer], today Liam. It is what it is.

Can I ask you about the VAR calls? How would you feel if those went against your team?

I just said, I review both actions. From my point of view it's quite clear that the first one, one of their players kicked Trev and the second one is quite clear that it's handball. Now I can understand that from their point of view there can be no foul, but I think it's quite clear that it's a foul and then it's a penalty.

Seven points in three games. Are you happy with the way your team is playing and what you don't like about your team so far?

I'm very happy. First of all, as you said, because three games, seven points, it's important. I'm very happy in general. Today I was not happy after the first-half. The reason why is because we didn't play on the ball in the way we prepared the game. And we were not good enough in the second ball and duels. While in the second-half I think we were very good on the ball and we were very, very good in the second ball and duels. And I think we deserve to win the game. We dominated the second half. And against this team, if you are not strong enough, you struggle.

Why was Enzo Fernandez angry at half-time?

The answer is, he's a Club World Cup winner, he's a World Cup winner. And I think probably he's the only player in the world to win both titles. And when he's not good enough, he can recognise. And probably he was upset for that. Because in the first-half I think he was not good enough.

Then in the second-half he was, like the rest, brilliant. So probably the reason why he was not happy is because he can see that he was not good enough. And in the second-half I think he was brilliant. But at the end of the game they were all dancing or celebrating the win. So Enzo was there and he was happy.

It appeared he was pointing to Marcos Alvarez...

No idea, probably. If you see when we scored with Joao, I immediately left the bench because I was more worried to improve in the second-half. So I came back in the changing room to prepare the tactical board and everything. So I didn't see nothing.

If you see when Joao scored, I left and I was already inside. So I didn't see nothing. I will ask now, but I'm not worried about Enzo's reaction. I'm more happy about the win and the second-half.

Happy with Tosin Adarabioyo and Trevoh Chalobah's partnership?

And Josh [Acheampong] also was very good against Palace. He needs to make mistakes to improve. Against Palace, the goal that we conceded from free-kick, the one that the referee disallows, is from Josh that lost the ball. But it's part of the process if we want to build him and improve him. And we are happy with Josh. Tosin is doing fantastic from last season. Trevoh, exactly the same since coming back in January. And we have now finally Wes [Fofana] back, that is another one that can help us after the international break.
