Liverpool has struck a deal with Aston Villa for the transfer of Harvey Elliott.
The 22-year-old will initially join the Premier League club on a season-long loan, with an obligation to purchase the player for £35 million ($47.4 million) thereafter. Elliott was previously in talks with RB Leipzig last month, with the Bundesliga team expected to make its move once Xavi Simons finalized his anticipated exit, which saw the Dutchman sign for Tottenham on Saturday.
However, it's Villa who has secured the services of Elliott, whose first-team chances have been limited since Arne Slot took over as Liverpool's head coach last summer. The player is scheduled to undergo a medical in Birmingham on Monday.
With its qualification for the Europa League, Villa is having to be inventive with its transfer dealings to ensure it adheres to UEFA's financial regulations.
Liverpool has already raked in more than $270 million from sales this summer, helping to balance out a spending spree exceeding $400 million.
That figure is set to rise further with the impending signing of Alexander Isak from Newcastle.
The Reds also maintain an interest in Crystal Palace center-back Marc Guehi, having tabled a £35 million ($47.4 million) bid for the player.
Guehi's contract at Palace expires next summer.
In anticipation of life after Guehi, Palace is eyeing Brighton center-back Igor Julio for a loan deal, while also exploring at least one other defensive option.
Despite the potential arrival of Guehi, AC Milan is unlikely to be a destination for Liverpool defender Joe Gomez, as the Italian side has currently stepped back from a possible deal.
Jayden Danns is expected to remain at Liverpool as the Reds keep an eye on his recovery following an injury that cut short a loan spell at Sunderland last season.
Midfielder Stefan Bajcetic and left-backs Calum Scanlon and Luke Chambers are also set to stay put as they work towards regaining full fitness.
Kaide Gordon continues to seek a loan move after a deal with League One club Blackpool fell through.
Rhys Williams could also be loaned out temporarily.
