Ange Postecoglou was sacked as Tottenham manager in the summer before being replaced by Thomas Frank
Former Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood has said that the club should never have sacked ‘winner’ Ange Postecoglou, following his success in the Europa League last season.
The Australian led Spurs to victory in the competition, which resulted in qualification for the Champions League this season. Despite success in Europe, Spurs also finished the season in 17th place in the Premier League table.
That ultimately led to Spurs making the decision to make a change. Postecoglou was replaced by Thomas Frank in the summer, but after a disappointing first half of the season, the Dane has been sacked with Tottenham sitting in 16th place in the table.

The search for a new manager is underway. But Sherwood believes that a change shouldn’t have been made in the first place.
“Tottenham should have never finished 17th last season but that was the gamble that Ange Postecoglou took and I think they sacked a winner,” he told Casinostugan.
“Everyone’s tried to win at Tottenham but that man actually did it and I give him a lot of credit for that. He put all his eggs in the Europa League basket but that’s how he got the team the opportunity to win a trophy, and that’s why they finished 17th.”
The former manager has also sent a warning to Spurs over a potential appointment of Oliver Glasner. The Austrian has confirmed that he will be leaving Crystal Palace at the end of the season and is among the favourites to take over at Tottenham in the early bookmaker’s odds.
“Oliver Glasner has done a fantastic job at Crystal Palace but I don’t like the way he has acted. I think he’s thrown his toys out of the pram and I thought it was disrespectful to the club the way he came out and threw them under the bus,” Sherwood said.

“The club have been good to him. He knew when he took the job in the first place that Palace are a selling club. Their best players outgrow the club.
“He’s done a wonderful job. He’s given the fans the best moment they’ve ever had in their recent history (the FA Cup win). He also gave them one of the worst moments with the way they went out against Macclesfield, don’t forget.
“It all levels itself out but Palace have put him on the map in the Premier League and now I think a lot of clubs who might have taken a look at him before his outburst will think twice. They might think hold on, that might happen to us.”
