Eze, Havertz, Calafiori - Arsenal injury news latest as Gunners soar to top of Premier League table

Arsenal enjoyed a hard-earned 1-0 win over Newcastle United at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday evening, but the Premier League clash wasn't without its setbacks

Arsenal reclaimed the top spot in the Premier League standings on Saturday with a 1-0 win over Newcastle United, but their success wasn't without its issues.

Ebere Eze scored the decisive goal just nine minutes into the match at the Emirates Stadium off the back of a well-worked corner, a common theme for the Gunners this season.

As a result, Mikel Arteta's side once more sit first on the league table heading into their final four matches, three points clear of Manchester City.

However, with Pep Guardiola's side holding a game in hand over Arsenal, the Gunners will need to be perfect throughout May should they hope to clinch their first league title in more than two decades.

They will also head into a congested run of fixtures next month a couple of players light through injury...

Ebere Eze

Despite securing the win for his side and claiming Player of the Match honours, Eze was substituted off less than 10 minutes into the second-half. While fans will have been worried that the versatile attacking-midfielder could be set for a stint on the sidelines, Eze was quick to clarify his situation with Sky Sports at full-time.

He explained: "Yeah, I'm alright. I'm all good," before adding: "Just precaution, didn't want to do anything. Yeah, I'll be okay."

Kai Havertz

Havertz also made way for Viktor Gyokeres just 35 minutes into the fixture, receiving medical treatment on the pitch before ultimately being pulled by Arteta and heading straight down the tunnel for further assessment on foot.

Speaking after the match, Arteta explained of Havertz and Eze: "Lets see, at the moment they have to be looked after but hopefully they're going to be okay."

In his post-match conference, meanwhile, he added: "Muscular niggles, we don't think it is too much."

Riccardo Calafiori

The Italian missed Saturday's match altogether as he continues to recover from an issue. However, Arteta also gave a promising update on Calafiori ahead of the game, with the defender also spotted taking part in a training session on the pitch after the match.

He said: "He was very close. But we have certain players that are coming back from injuries and can play certain moments as well, and we need to be balanced in what we need to."

Jurrien Timber

Timber was also missing from Arteta's squad against Newcastle owing to a hip injury he picked up almost six weeks ago. Arteta has not delivered an update on him as of recent.

Mikel Merino

While the Spaniard could appear once more before the end of the season, Arteta has been reluctant to put a timeframe on Merino's return. The midfielder, who has been a key part of Arsenal's plans since his arrival from Real Sociedad in 2024, is on the road to recovery for a foot injury.

Arteta recently said of the talent: "It's a bit premature to say that [he will play again this season]. He's evolving really well he's really pushing every boundary that he possibly can but it's a bit early to answer that question."
