It has emerged that Joe Lewis was in hot water with the FA three years ago, with Tottenham’s former principal owner being investigated for alleged illegal conduct.
The Bahamas-based billionaire, who founded the ENIC group, led the ownership of Tottenham Hotspur until a few years ago.
However, Lewis pleaded guilty to charges of insider trading after being indicted for passing information to ‘romantic partners and his private pilots’.
This did not affect the North London club, as prior to the indictment, Lewis transferred control of Spurs and some of his other assets to Lewis Family Trusts.
It has now emerged that back in 2022, when Lewis was still the principal owner of the club, he was under scrutiny by the FA for allegedly engaging in illegal activity.

Former Tottenham owner Joe Lewis was investigated by FA for betting on matches
The Sun claim that the FA investigated the former Spurs owner after allegations were made that he bet on matches.
The FA’s rules state that no player or official involved with any club is allowed to make any football-related wager.
FA disciplinary chiefs were alerted by claims that Lewis may have broken the rules by betting on games, and began investigating him in 2022.
However, the investigation was ended with a determination that no further action was required on the 88-year-old.
Tottenham, a representative of Lewis and his company, Tavistock, have all declined to comment when asked about the controversy.
Lewis family have taken full control of Spurs
Following the exit of Daniel Levy in September, Joe’s son and daughter, Vivienne and Charles Lewis, have taken full control of Tottenham.
Meanwhile, Lewis’s long-time associate and City financier, Peter Charrington, has been appointed as the non-executive chairman of Spurs.
Both Vivienne and Charles Lewis have been actively visible at the club over recent months, being seen at both home and away matches.
